Product Spotlight – The Vandella

Lush Longboards

A summer of shredding later…. and The Vandella has firmly established itself as our Team’s “deck of choice” when things get fast and dangerous.

Vandella Concave review

Phwoaaaar… concave.

Darren and Chris worked together to produce this deck… combining over two decades of downhill freeride and race experience between them. The results speak for themselves…

The creators round a Spanish corner… formation flying is a big part of being on the Lush Team.

The Vandella features our 4X construction for a stiff, damped ride… so it’s race responsive, but still comfortable enough to bomb hills all day without getting jelly legs. 4X has been several years in the making, we first started mucking around with embedded diagonal layups in 2008, and the Vandella is our first production topmount to feature the concept.

Techno! More info on this rather confusing picture in the Workshop.

The reason we’re all addicted to this deck isn’t the layup though… it’s the shape. With huge wheel wells, a super-wide nose, our new “race rails” and the trademark “hips” bringing up the rear, this board is perfect in pretty much every downhill situation – tuck, footbrake, slide, rail, check and carve. We went through a few prototypes before we got it this perfect…

Here’s a close-up of the rear of the standing platform, showing the rail profile and hip shape.

The Vandella is undoubtably the finest topmount the UK has ever produced… a worthy successor to the race-winning Revolution as our premium downhill offering. Available everywhere, now.

Chris doing what he does best, on the deck he helped us make… sending a hill by himself, in the middle of nowhere, as fast as he can. Right on the limit, because it’s fun.

Ride The Dragon results

Lush Longboards

ride the dragon
Well despite the gale force winds and stormy rain showers the Ride the Dragon event managed to go ahead . The hardy skaters that braved the adverse conditions managed to complete the race . Long time Lush team rider Pete Connolly took top honours in the stand up section with new Cult team rider Bruno Silva De Olivera coming in second . The junior section saw Vandem team rider Rob Borek scoring a Gin and Honey Cheerio fuelled third place.

Here is a little edit Rob did

Stand up

1) Pete Connolly
2) Bruno Silva De Oliveira
3) John Griffiths

1)Wil Stephenson
2)Ben Bewley
3)Jay Thomas

Stand up juniors

1) Richard Ward
2) Tom Stevens
3) Rob “half a shandy” Borek .

Props to Jason of Turn 360 , and Joe Baldwin for organising the event and to all the marshals for keeping everyone safe despite the best efforts of the weather trying to wreck everything . All concerned had a blast both on and off the hill . Roll on next year .

International Board Meeting Coverage

Lush Longboards

As you are probably aware, at the same time as the Bristol Board Meeting was going on, several hundred skaters were gathering in Toronto for the original Toronto Board Meeting (one of the organisers being our own Smooth C Hicken – bio coming soon).

Sort of makes the UK one look a bit small!!! Organisers estimate 900 skaters turned up, and fully shut Toronto down with sheer weight of numbers.

Of course we were involved in the Toronto Board Meeting as well as our own, two lucky skaters walked away with a Shocker and a Stallion.

Check your Facebook for more updates from the UK Board Meeting – if you signed the Kisiwa on Saturday, Tag yourself in it!

Bristol Board Meeting – Send us your footage!

We’re working on an edit of the event now, but for a proper job, we need YOUR footage! Please get in touch and let us know what you’ve got!

Bristol Board Meeting

Biggest turnout – ever! Click the picture for the full-res version or Tag yourself on Facebook.

A huge thanks to everyone who helped, skated, donated, and made the event the biggest Charity Skate ever! More news and updates soon.

Bristol Board Meeting – Tomorrow!

Lush Longboards

Only one day left! Some important information about this event, please read on…

  • Did you know that we’re NOT starting at Bath Spa station this year? The event kicks off at 11am in Green Park, Bath – make sure you check out this map and get there on time!
  • We’re putting together a BBQ for lunch – bring a few quid and we’ll sort you out with a burger or two.
  • If you want to skate the Shiner Hill at the end of the Bath to Bristol – YOU MUST BRING A HELMET. You will also need to sign this waiver – print it out, sign it and bring it with you. If you’re just skating Bath to Bristol, don’t worry and enjoy the fun!
  • We have been putting the finishing touches to the Lush 2012 Lineup this last month, and most of it will be available to play on and check out in some form or another once we get back to Lush HQ. Come and check it out!

See you tomorrow!

Calne Skatepark

Lush Longboards

It was a nice sunny afternoon on Friday, so we went to Calne Skatepark for a session on some of our new boards.

Darren, Stallion crailblock

The Stallion got off the ground pretty well… Hip early grab.

Darren again, ollie on the bigger bank.

Mark was loving his “Experimental” 33.5 vert/slide deck - Matt has been sliding his for a whole now, shape is pretty much dialled in, we just need to finish up with the construction.

Mark, hip ollie into the super-tight end bowl

Cheers to the local guys we met, we’ll be back…!
