25 years of pure, undiluted FUN

What is longboarding to you?

Max 5 words, email us at info@lushlongboards.com, go!

We wrote that list in 2007 and apart from the New friends becoming Old friends, not much has changed. The only thing I’d add is Achey knees…

This year, we’re celebrating 25 years of Lush Longboards.

There are some stories to be told, of that you can be certain. But for now let’s look to what the future brings.

Samba
The original carving longboard has been away getting some TLC in the form of R&D. A vague idea became a prototype, became a whole new truck, became a whole new Samba.

No promises on timing, but this thing Sambas hard. More Samba’y than a Samba ever Samba’d. More news as it becomes available. We’re stoked.

Skateboarding
Date for your diary: 8th September for the Bristol Board Meeting!

You know the drill. We’ll see you in the park.

Sunshine
Well, statistically speaking, it’s on the cards.

We’ll be making the most of it, and plan to bring you a few of those stories along the way.

We’ll see you on the hill for at least another 25,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Before Skate Faster there was…

SLIDE.

This relic was recently dug out of a dusty skateshop where it’d been hiding for almost 20 years.

Realistically, with the footage of sessions in 2003 and earlier lost to a corrupted hard drive, this is as far back as our video archive goes. As far as history will know, this is our genesis.

Is the skating great? Yes.
Is the filming great? Yes!

Okay, when compared with today’s super high production levels and insane speeds, it may not provide YouTube surfers with quite the same death-defying thrill… but arguably, the path was laid by video parts like these in the early 2000s.

Give your skate mates a call, order some pizza, get it on the big screen. Not too big, this wasn’t filmed in 4K.

It was a simpler time, long before social media or Oympic dreams, and we guarantee it’ll get you fired up to go skate.

It certainly did for us. My pressure spins aren’t what they were, perhaps 2024 will have to be the year for a hard wheel renaissance. I see you, London crew, keeping the fire glowing.

We’re working on a copy of Lush 06.1, filmed in Barcelona one year later than this. Watch this space. If anyone’s got a copy of Faltown’s Art of Going Sideways, I wouldn’t mind seeing that again either.

We’ve got more aches than when this was filmed, but we’re still out here. You’ll know its us by the massive grins.

Happy New Year,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

It doesn’t get much more simple…

A plank of wood, two trucks, four wheels.

Perhaps that’s why Simple Things magazine were keen to check in with the Bristol Girls Crew recently.

They proclaim to “celebrate slowing down, enjoying what you have and making the most of where you live” and – though I may be biased – I can’t think of a better way to do that than with a longboard.

The slowing down may lead to speeding up, but that’s part of the fun…

The locals here really embody that spirit – talk about making the most of where you live! To many, Trenchard St carpark is a grimy eyesore in the centre of town. To the crew, it’s home. I’ve never seen a chunk of concrete give and receive so much love!

Stoked to see so many friendly faces appearing in print, not to mention the Nomad front and centre.

Not necessarily your go-to dancing board (Katie has since gotten hooked on the Legend) but a great comrade for everyday city life:

May the sunshine in the video warm your winter cockles.

Stay rad and we’ll see you on the hill,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Sometimes I’m bombing a parking garage in New Orleans,  sometimes I’m carving up fresh paved asphalt in the Ozark mountains.  The Lush pintail rides as good as it did when I bought it 16 years ago.  The thing I really notice and like about this board is the fact that Lush uses top-quality components for their complete decks.  The value you get for the money with Lush Longboards is unsurpassed by any other manufacturer in skateboarding.  Hope to make it by the shop in Bristol some day!

I originally bought this in 2002 and had it shipped overseas to Colorado. Loaned out to a friend, eventually lost in a garage, handed back to my parents, given to my little brother who took it around the USA in the back of a van and now 21 years later it has made it full circle back into my hands. So stoked to have this board back and give it some much needed TLC.

Absolutely love riding this longboard, it runs forever and so so smooth

👌

Best longboard I every had
Love it !!

Recognise this?

Yep, it’s a load of mud.

But it’s our mud.

And based proudly in Bristol as we are, we wanted that highlighted in our newest video creation… May we present, the Legend.

Grab a cup of tea, turn it up, hit play.

No talking this time, just a full Bristol showcase.

First up, @bristolgirlslongboard by way of Danielle and Sonia, two pillars of the local community.

Bristol locations such as the suspension bridge and – whatever you think of taking wave power from the ocean to create waves inland – The Wave.

Not to mention the eclectic mashup of local amateur and professional musicians that came together under the masterful ear of @danabelmusic to create the soundtrack. A big thank you to Dan, as well as:

We hope you enjoy watching half as much as we did creating.

And now, winter is just around the corner. On the face of things, a quiet time for a longboard company, but in reality we’re pushing harder than ever.

A new Lush website, t-shirt ideas (reflective patterns for winter night skating?), and as ever, saving up our hard-earned pennies to get the new Samba on the way.

What’s your plan? Multistory carparks? Thick wetsuit? Become a cave-dwelling goblin? All great options.

See you on the hill/in the cave,

Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Thank you!

Super hot weather, fires at Didcot train station, no bacon sarnies at the start…

And yet, the vibrations were higher than ever and we’ve raised MacMillan over

£4,500

Bloody fantastic, if we say so ourselves. Not our highest event total to date – if you still have friends to pester then here’s the JustGiving link for any last-minute donations.

With temperatures hovering around 30° the hydration stops were full of happy, sweaty faces. A few of the braver souls took it upon themselves to cool down in the river. Not mandatory, but highly recommended!

Hillfields park now has three pumptracks (!) so anyone with power left was able to use it up before heading back to the shop for the raffle.

A big shoutout to the local crew who got stuck in ripping raffle tickets – separating all 2000 of them was no small task. Thank you!

The highlight was definitely cruising along and speaking to so many faces new and old. But the raffle wasn’t half bad either…

We had the sponsors step up hard this year with completes, decks, wheels, trucks, clothing, accessories… you name it, it was on the prize table. A big thank you to:

We’ll have next year’s date to you as soon as possible, it’s not one to miss.

And the season may be slowing down but we’ve been busy… keep your eyes peeled for some new video media dropping soon.

See you on the hill,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

The biggest UK longboard event of the year

Is slowly making its way back around!

The date for the 2023 Bristol Board Meeting is the 9th September.

How do you organise yourself these days? Google Calender // Facebook

Young or old, beginner or expert, this is the one not to miss.

For anyone not sure what it’s about – check it out:

Think friends, skateboarding, a ridiculously good raffle and feeling good at the end of the day knowing it was all for a good cause – we’ll be supporting Macmillan again this year.

Print out the sponsorship form here and big it up to your friends and family.

15 miles on a longboard is seriously manageable once you throw in a few hydration stops along the way, but you don’t have to tell them that. They’ll donate more if they think you’re going to suffer…

Last year we raised almost £3,000 and this year we can do better than that. Feel free to get us started on the JustGiving page!

But hey, if you’re smiling then we’re winning. And there’s now a 3rd pumptrack at the Hillfields spot where we rest and bunch up together before the last mile of smooth cruising into town…

The sunshine is booked in and all the finer details are available on the Bristol Board Meeting page on the site.

We’ll see you there,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Precision.

I know, I know, it’s not a Samba. I promise, we’re working hard on getting the new one ready. For this year. Hopefully…

But if you’re into smooth turns, laid-back carves and deep satisfaction then perhaps we do have something for you after all.

All of our boards are now available as Precision completes.

And the prices have been dropped.

But what makes them worth it?

The upgrade is in the trucks – they feature the Sabre Forged Precision Mk3.

Financially there’s a saving for sure, but let’s dig into what they actually mean for your setup.

They’re strong as an ox

The hangers are made of cold-forged aircraft grade 6061-T6 aluminum, which in tests has shown a yield strength of ~275MPa (megapascal).

1MPa is roughly 145psi.

Considering my bike tyres take about 115psi and these trucks offer almost 40,000… my calculations suggest that these trucks are not only as strong as an ox, but that they could actually blow one up.

But seriously. You won’t destroy these, ever. They stay straight, which means your wheels and bearings will be loaded correctly and your whole setup will last longer, too.

They’re exceptionally light
As we’ve seen, cold-forging makes things pretty strong. So these trucks aren’t as bulky as most others on the market.

Whilst the heavy-hitting downhill crew might want to weight up the front of their boards, for most of us a light setup makes for a better time! Effortless pushing, more nimble turning, more trickability – more fun.

Precision axles
CNC lathed and ground in the UK. Good strong hangers would lose their appeal if the axles weren’t up to the job… these are!

Ground to a tolerance of +/- 3 micron means your bearings will be super snug, and less play in the bearings means a longer lifespan for them, your wheels and your grip levels. No weirdness here, just predictably juicy carves.

Bushing seat
Slightly tighter than the Mk2 to perfectly fit the Sabre bushings.

This means that when you lean, your bushings are doing their job right away. There’s no slop and no sketchy middle-ground waiting for them to engage – you’re in absolute control over what your trucks are doing at all times.

Precision pivot
Slightly narrower than the Mk2, paired with Sabres own urethane pivot cups.

Very important to how your trucks ride – the finish and precision of the pivot will determine exactly how precise and smooth you feel. These are perfectly precise, expertly finished and you’ll feel the flow whilst riding them as a direct result.

The boards
They’ve all had the precision treatment!

What comes in bright colours…

…will get you in shape for summer and is recommended daily for maximum health benefit?

OK, that wasn’t difficult. We make longboards, not riddles.

Point is, the new Lush Smoothies are here!

Harking back to the days of Lush Magmas, we’ve gone for the perennially juicy translucent vibes, this time in teal and yellow to remind you of the seaside on a warm summer’s day.

The Smoothies are available in 62mm and 71mm and will soon™ feature on all of our Pro completes.

Great options as a cruiser wheel or for those in the habit of coring wheels at rough slide spots who want to save some money.

Does what it says on the tin. Super smooth, flowy – functional. Do not ingest.

Make the most of the sunshine – it could be that this is our summer,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Just like Peter Fonda…

We, too, are seeking a way to live peacefully – our spiritual truth.

It may be no secret to you that our method of attaining this is to harness the power of urethane wheels, a wooden plank, and gravity.

But just like Wyatt and Billy in their cult trip across America, we hit stumbling blocks along the way. While bigotry and hatred slowed them… we dealt something arguably much worse…

Crunchy old bearings.

In frustration we turned our back on the skate trip and returned to the drawing board. There must be an affordable way to keep rolling through day and night, sun, storms and the full assault of British asphalt…

And thus, the Easy Rider was born.

The new bearing from us here at Lush that will roll smoother, faster and for longer, without breaking the bank. Featuring:

Built-in spacers and speed rings
   – Keeps bearings in alignment and therefore lasting longer
   – Keeps dirt out for longer than separate components
   – Way easier to handle when swapping wheels

2x rubber shields
   – Far superior to metal shields at keeping dirt out and increasing longevity
   – Easily removable for when maintenance becomes necessary

– Recyclable cardboard tube packaging
   – Feel free to donate to your nearest school, where the arts & crafts cupboards are suffering for a lack of toilet roll tubes

Awesome yellow and teal finish
   – Blind your friends as you race to the pub
   – Goes great with our new wheels…

New wheels?!

You bet.

But you’ll have to wait til next time to hear about them – we’ve got some photography to do first 🙂

Smells like Spring. See you out there…
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

Pumptracks have grabbed the imagination of the world right now – and its easy to see why. For the cities building them, weighed up against the cost of a poorly built skatepark, it’s a no-brainer.

For the skater – not to mention the longboarders, cruisers, scooter kids, balance bike toddlers, bmx jumpers, and their dogs – it’s also a whole lot more fun!

Arguably the best way to take the first steps to skating transitions and bowls, they also provide good times, pure and simple. Chase your friends around the track, get the giggles, tire your legs out. If that’s not a good session, I don’t know what is.

In and around Bristol we are spoilt for choice:

Brunel Way was Velosolutions first Bristol project – and it came in a time before the current criteria were established (berms 1.5m high, etc).

As such, it’s a little smaller than the other tracks on this page and a great first stepping in point for anyone looking to get pumping. Works well for all levels with double-bumps to manual or ollie for those looking to scare themselves!

Can get fairly busy on a sunny weekend, with a family-friendly vibe – everyone gets a turn.

Hillfields is a Lush favourite and meeting point on the Bristol Board Meeting.

Previously two tracks in one, with a level loop at the top and an optional downhill jump section feeding off the end!

In 2023, they have added a whole new pumptrack to the location! With 3 tracks that vary from mellow to hold-on-tight, it’s a great day out.

Easy to access from the Bath to Bristol cycle path.

Little Stoke is a much wider track, originally a bmx jump track that flows slightly downhill from top to bottom.

As such you can pick up a lot of speed if you want – but its also great for beginners who can feel the flow over the rollers without having generate that speed themselves as they get the hang of pumping.

Taller, mellower berms that you can really soar around. Tiring for your legs and your cheek muscles, you’ll be grinning all day.

Stockwood pumptrack is a more recently finished track, beautifully crafted, super flowy.

This is a more advanced track – but thats not to say that a beginner can’t go there and learn their way around. The berms are steep and the track is long. Not as busy as Brunel Way, being further out of town.

Also includes a separate jump track… not for the faint of heart!

Cheddar is another recent addition to our collection and an equally fine bit of design work.

Tall and steep berms that can give a real kick for those looking to go fast – combined with the length of the track makes this a real leg burner.

Park by the skatepark and try out your newfound pumping techniques there after the session. Can get busy with bikes but you’ll want a few minutes between runs to rest your legs anyway.

If you’re further afield, check the pumptrack map OF THE WORLD!

And if you’re wanting to get involved but not sure what kind of board you need, think agile. A kicktail can be really helpful, and you don’t want to be too low or too long – both of which can bottom out over the humps.

From our lineup the favourites are:

But honestly… the best board is the one you’ve got ready to go. We’ve even seen the Legend being thrown around the track and if that works… most things will!

If you have a few photos and words about your local track and would be willing to share the love – hit reply and send it in! We’ll add them to the list.

Rock steady,
Hank and the team at Lush Longboards

A Legend is born…

But that name was already taken – by it’s bigger brother.

The Radian is a 41″ inch freeride and freestyle tool designed to be most pleasant in the day-to-day, and a trustworthy companion for anyone delving deeper into the dark realms of freestyle trickery and sideways stunts.

But don’t listen to me… see for yourselves!

JOOZ!!! That bomb drop at the end…

Anyone partial to the Grifter or the Machine 3D (rip in peace) will feel right at home on this concave… honed over years of rider feedback and development, beloved kicks and all.

Whether you want to wiggle to work, get your flatland footwork all fancy, or don your helmet and pads and get ready to shreddy – the Radian can do that.

Further details on the product page. She’s a beaut.

Now if you’ll excuse us, the sun’s out!!
